R.I.P. USA

At least Europe can handle being the favorite in the Ryder Cup.
The Americans got smoked again Saturday. If they don't watch out, the massacre at Oakland Hills could happen again.

Trouble in Ireland

The United States team is getting hammered again.
The hopes were placed on our "best players," well they're just not getting it done.
Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk have won a grand total of one point through Saturday morning's play. Chris DiMarco and Phil Mickelson have earned a half point.
Horrendous.
Europe carries a 3-point lead heading into this afternoon's matches and David Toms has been paired with Mickelson. The duo did quite well four years ago at The Belfry ... let's see if it can provide a spark.
If not, all the rah-rah surround captain Tom Lehman will turn to boo-hoo.

TV COVERAGE STINKS

I'm still trying to comprehend how USA is showing tape-delayed coverage of the Ryder Cup. Rigth now we're watching the beginning of the morning matches which took place seven hours ago, when the afternoon session is getting heated.
The network should have begun its 7 a.m. coverage live, and then replayed the morning session. This is ridiculous. Everyone that is a big enough fan of what is going on in Ireland already knows what happened this morning!!!
We're a dang newspaper and we post stuff live now, you figured television could get with it.

IT'S TIGHT EARLY

Europe looked like it was going to rout the Americans early in the first day of play, but there have been a couple of rallied to get the United States back into it.
Tiger Woods, who hit the opening shot of his day into the water, and Jim Furyk are clinging to a 1 up lead after 16 holes against Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington.
Shreveport's David Toms is getting no help from his partner, rookie Brett Wetterich. Toms and Wetterich are 2 down to Spain's Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal.
A terrific rally from Stewart Cink and J.J. Henry has erased a 3-up lead from Europeans Paul Casey and Robert Karlsson. The Americans now lead that match 1 up with three holes to play.
After 13 holes, the final match of the monring session is all square between Americans Chris DiMarco and Phil Mickelson and Euro duo Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood.
